INDUSTRIAL INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING IN 2003

Maintaining and improving the streets that serve manufacturing companies is Key to creating and keeping family-sustaining jobs in Chicago.  In 2003 and beyond, What is the City planning to spend on its industrial infrastructure - the streets, viaducts, and other transportation links that serve our industrial corridors?

For 2003-07, the City plans to spend $116.8 million on Industrial Infrastructure  -- considerably less then it projected in its previous 5-year plan and the LOWEST SINCE 1999.

Here is what the City plans to spend on Industrial Infrastructure in 2003:

In a time of high unemployment, the City must be more proactive in keeping good jobs in our neighborhoods.  Now is the time to reassure our industrial employers by fast-tracking industrial improvements to help them stay and grow in our neighborhoods.  Therefore, NCBG recommends that the City FULLY FUND its five-year 2003-07 industrial program.  This means that the City would commit to the complete $116 million industrial streets and viaduct program in 2003 rather than the $31 million it now plans to spend.
