NCBG launched its new initiative to develop a comprehensive, strategic, and visionary “Facility Master Plan” for rebuilding and improving Chicago’s public schools and the neighborhoods they serve (AKA the “Burnham Plan” for our schools and neighborhoods). A Facility Master Plan will bring us closer to achieving our goal to create equal educational opportunities for all of our children by providing world-class facilities in all of Chicago’s neighborhoods.

NCBG has assembled a Community Capital Planning Commission comprised of volunteer school reform parents and advocates, civic leaders, architects and planners, legal representation, and community leaders that will, over the next 6 months, review CPS’ capital spending to date, formulate recommendations for enhancing CPS’ capital planning, budgeting and facilities management program, identify innovative ways to finance school repair and construction, and propose criteria and principles for strategic, fair and equitable prioritization of facility investments. The Commission will be provided guidance and feedback from an esteemed National Advisory Panel of experts who have been involved with facilities planning, design, and management in their own professions.
